I remember sitting in the small country church when I first encountered this prophetic command in Hosea 10:12.

    Sow for yourselves righteousness;

reap steadfast love;

break up your fallow ground;

for it is time to seek the Lord,

that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.

    It has always rattled around in my head, and I have always been fascinated by the imagery of breaking up the unplowed ground – soil that is fallow. It  kept coming back that this message and central theme of Scripture:   God desires to grow the desires of His heart within the soil of our very lives.   But many of us slip towards letting this ground lay fallow and unused.  We tend to slip towards not touching it, leaving areas of our heart fallow and unplowed.

    I believe God has been calling me more and more towards plowing up my unplowed ground.  For me that means starting this ministry, the fallow ground project.  A ministry that invites others to break up that unplowed ground in their hearts and let God do with that soil what He wishes.

And now what was started as parachurch ministry, has found a home within the church I currently have the privilege of serving.
